The Faint are back! They’re about to release a new album, Doom Abuse–the first since 2008’s Fascination–they’re going on tour to celebrate, and one lucky RVA Mag reader has the golden opportunity to win a pair of tickets to their just-announced show at DC’s 9:30 Club on May 20! We’ve only known about Doom Abuse for a week, but we’ve already been given a preview of the Mike Mogis-produced album, The Faint’s sixth, with not one but two singles from it. The first, “Help In The Head,” mixes a driving Joy Division-style bassline with upbeat postpunk rhythms, stabs of keyboard-generated noise, and a darkly catchy chorus. Check out the video:

Then listen to the brand new second single, “Salt My Doom.” This one has an out-of-control energy that is straight-up punk rock, and singer Todd Fink describes it as like “being strapped to the front of a moving train.” We can see it, especially with those The Normal/Subway Sect-style atonal keyboards propelling the whole thing overtop of a double-time punk backbeat. They’ve disabled embeds on this track (really, guys?) but you can stream it at Soundcloud HERE.

And after you’ve heard those songs, get stoked on Doom Abuse–which you can preorder HERE–and the tour that will accompany it! The synth-wielding Omaha boys will be hitting DC on Tuesday, May 20, and the evening promises to be a thoroughly thrilling experience!
