RVA Bass Bulletin #5: Powered By White Raver Rafting

Who says the sax is dead? Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli has officially put any of that talk to sleep. Big G, which also includes home grown drummer Jeremy Salken, released their third album, Nocturnal, this week, and I personally am at a loss for words. The way they meld sound is both incredible and unique, combining live instruments and electronic production (bass!) for one of a kind soulful, jazzy, electronic bliss. If you think the album is amazing, I highly suggest you see them live. After catching 3 shows in 2011, I witnessed a significant progression in production and overall following, which in my opinion is a testament to the duo’s unmatched live energy. Dom brings more passion to a live set than any musician I have ever encountered, with blood red face and pulsating neck veins to prove it. I suggest “Rise and Shine” and “It’s Goin Down.” See these guys live, you will not regret it!

Coachella, the largest festival on the West Coast, released it’s official lineup this week. I have mixed emotions regarding the announcement. I am a bit disappointed with the headliners. However, I’m pretty stoked about the number of EDM artists on the bill as a whole this year. With expectations of crowds nearing 100,000, Coachella changed to a 2 weekend format this year. Both weekends’ schedules are exactly the same, and artists are only booked on the basis that they will not play in California for a minimum of three months prior.

Oh yeah, and Bassnectar is coming to Richmond. Yeah, I said it. No OFFICIAL announcement has been made yet. This just means I don’t know where he is playing–but I do know when. 4/25/2012. HUGE news. Since the date is all I can confirm, I will let you bask in this knowledge, and bring more details to you next week.

This Week’s Bangers:
The Weeknd – Same Old Song [Paper Diamond Remix]
Tommy Trash – Sex, Drugs, Rock ‘N Roll
Tim Berg – Ash (Papa)
Marty Party – Just Because Of You
Nero – Crush On You (Knife Party VIP Remix)

Remix Collections:
Kanye & Jay-Z – Niggas In Paris
Bassnectar – Divergent Spectrum
R3HAB & Swanky Tunes – Sending My Love

EDM In RVA:
The only event coming next week is the huge rave party at Hat Factory that we will be covering. The College Invasion Tour is next Thursday, and doors open at 9pm. There will be plenty of booze, gorgeous women, pretty lights, and dj’s who want you to do nothing more than loose yourself on the dance floor. Preview the artists on WRR, and for specific information, visit our event preview here at RVAmag. Come and and turn the place upside down with us!
