RVA Hip hop review: Blackhandpath – Obfuscant

by | Jul 8, 2015 | MUSIC

Blackhandpath have been on me for quite some time to run through their project.

Blackhandpath have been on me for quite some time to run through their project. Now that I did, I feel like I knew what to say more before I listened to it than I do now. This is not traditional in any sense, just take a look at their videos, which typically seem to feature shocking video of real life crimes over their often aggressive noise influenced, punk rock hip-hop sound.

Now I’ll be the first to tell you, I like different shit, music that pushes boundaries, and these waters are not shallow. In fact, engineering wise, Obfuscant is well put together, there a lot going on here. I like that the records are kept short like punk songs, full of loud energy, and underneath it all the desire to be express oneself without a filter.

I really don’t know what else to tell you…with songs like “WEAPONIZED AUTISM” and the sonic assault that is “STICKUPSIDE” this isn’t for the average listener, but maybe that’s the point.
