This crew embodies much of what makes us love our city — authenticity coupled with a DIY spirit, and an unwavering love for Richmond, VA. A city known for birthing legends such as D’Angelo, Lonnie Liston Smith, Lamb of God, Lucy Dacus and GWAR — Butcher Brown is forging their own path with a blend of psychedelic jazz funk infused with a hip-hop sensibility.
At their most recent Tiny Desk session, Butcher Brown wasted no time in unleashing what they refer to as “solar music” upon the crowd. But what exactly does that mean? It’s their way of encapsulating the diverse range of musical influences that drive their groove — simply put, it encompasses everything under the sun. Their latest release titled, Solar Music, stands as a testament to this distinctive blend, earning love from jazz purists, hip-hop heads, indie aficionados, and beyond.
