Miramar

Get Tight Lounge

Few concert experiences can match the feeling I had walking through a living crowd, pulsating to the rhythm and groove of Miramar. This local bolero group puts on one of the most passionate and inspired shows in town. This is life—living and breathing—a pulse so strong you can feel it in your shoes as they turn to flight and dance into the dirt. Miramar paints every show they perform: wild oranges and rich purples swirl out of the stage, weaving through the crowd in a snake-like fashion. How lucky are we to have such a world-class Latin group in Richmond, Virginia?

New Lions 7th Grade Girl Fight Logo Scars at The Camel_RVA Magazine 2025

The Camel

New Lions are taking The Camel. These locals have been around for a number of years, with their first release back in 2019. They capture a very specific and beautiful sound—emo alt-rock at its most heartfelt. My initial impression listening to them reminded me of Jimmy Eat World and some of the lighter Title Fight tracks. What really grabbed me was the dual vocals. They shadow one another and create an incredibly complex soundscape to dive into.

7th Grade Girl Fight is a hell of a name, and they’ve got a hell of a discography to match. Their most recent single, “We Don’t Raise Our Voices in This House,” is a lovely and moving modern power pop track. These are well-thought-out tunes—complex and simple at the same time. You don’t want to miss this Charlottesville group.

Logo Scars is a fascinating local electronic/post-punk group. They are pure dance. There’s a certain new wave angle to them, a sort of Devo quality that I always enjoy. Their three-song EP from last year leans a little more rock-focused and features some of my personal favorite tracks.

Friday Junior, Madison Turner, Cyber Twin, No1sing3r

Banditos

Friday Junior, Baltimore’s self-described “sinister Beach Boys,” are taking over Banditos. These guys will grab you by the face and command attention from the first echo of reverb. Before you know it, they’re ripping into a loud and affirming swirl of noise. They can write a damn catchy progression, with some truly mesmerizing drumming. Definitely a group to keep your eye on.

Madison Turner, a powerhouse local, is bringing it on the 19th. I’m hoping to hear a lot from her new album Curtsy When You Land. This is pure, unbridled rock’n’roll.

Cyber Twin joins the bill with their garagey mayhem abrasive in the best way possible. Crunchy guitars and barked vocals meant to be heard in a sweating venue with dim lights that shake with every vibration of the show.

No1sing3r is a duo I’ve yet to catch live, but their debut trio of songs released earlier this year is solid. Their electronic sound is versatile and anthemic, able to land across a range of moods and settings. And that’s no easy feat.

New Tunes

Jupiter Shrines – “Jupiter Shrines
This is the newest release from Jupiter Shrines, and yet it feels so familiar and comforting. The gentle guitar hums like a friend on a pier, and the vocals say something warm and reassuring. The singing is incredibly honest—self-aware and truthful. These four songs cover a wide range of energy and outlook, but together they feel like the fulfillment of promises you made as a kid under a wide, hot sun.

Sookie – “Cookie
First Sookie EP! Five songs of pure summer and driving. That’s how I hear this one—you put it on with the windows down and the volume cranked up, headed toward your next aimless adventure. The music is lively, bright, and full of momentum. I’m excited to see what comes next from Sookie.

Elle Christine – “The Roses”
Instant clean purity. The Roses” by  Elle Christine gently leads you into a calming soundscape of rushing water, deep breaths, and patient vocals. The guitars hold your hands while the percussion guides your feet. It’s one of the easiest songs to get lost in that I’ve heard recently. Definitely worth a couple dozen listens.

Dropheads – “Island Holiday”
Always love seeing something new from Dropheads. As usual, this one’s sweet and crunchy—warming you up with a romantic tropical riff before tearing into a speed-driven rocker. The lyrics are clever and current, and the chorus of “Island Holiday” gets me going. I’ve got a soft spot for the line “The hippies keep me up at night.” It might not be textbook surf rock, but to me, it’s prime surf rock.
