Many of us have thankfully avoided “The Thanksgiving Song” while remaining optimistic for a Peanuts Thanksgiving. As for Thanksgiving around Richmond, you might just see Chris Brown show up at the Municipal Waste show at Kingdom on Friday. Be thankful for local music this holiday and see some live bands!

A huge thank you goes to all the bands who played the Sounds of RVA 2nd Anniversary Showcase at Strange Matter, including The Hotdamns (pictured atop by Britt Novitch), Josh Small, Lightfields (pictured just above), Bearstorm, and Sacred Teachers. Not only were all of the sets incredible, they each left the audience wanting more. Here are some videos from Lightfields, who also had a show two nights later at The Nile. These are some new tunes the band has been working on in the studio. Lightfields is currently looking for a new drummer, so hit them up.

Lord Candy Dish does live projections during psych rock and noise shows, and the following clips are videos he posted of a show he “played” with Caves, Caverns and Anduin at Strange Matter (11/14). Accompaning him on live drawing was Eliza Childress.

It seems about half of Richmond was at the Hardywood Brewery full release of their Gingerbread Stout on Saturday 11/17, and Zep Replica took the stage as the last band. Not only did they blow everybody away, they were all clearly having the time of their lives. We couldn’t help but follow suit. Todd Raviotta took some video of “Since I’ve Been Loving You,” and it gives a pretty good indication of how awesome the set was.
Last Wednesday classic rockers Heart played at the Landmark Theater. Here is a video of “These Dreams” from that night taken by Troy VA Music. You’ll be transported to the 1980s even if you never lived ’em. It’s also noteworthy that Nancy Wilson was playing a mandolin. I had never noticed that a mandolin was in the mix there.
Patterack is a progressive emo metal band made up of Patrick Phillips. He just dropped Demos, which is a three song EP of atmospheric instrumental metal. You may recognize Phillips as a former Throne of Carrion member. Check out “The Peak and the Town” for slow-building melodic metal.
