We caught up with some of our favorite folk-Satanists, the guys from Wolf//Goat, and here is what transpired:
What does the slogan “Sator Rotas Arepo Tenet Opera!” on your page mean?
“The Captain Guides The Ship Gently,” and its a palindrome.
How did you come up with your name/what does it mean?
We don’t really know. But it started with a story and the animal combination was proposed and everyone was pleased.
Are you all from Richmond?
Originally no. We all met here. Ben is from Georgia. Tim is from New England, Brad is from Richmond and surrounding area, Julius is from VA Beach.
What comes first, Satan or the music?
Satan is the music. Without mother nature there is no life.
Do your shows usually inspire nakedness or was that a one-time thing?
The climax of the act inspires freedom and love. Nudity has made it to all but one show.
Describe your favorite show you’ve played, and why it’s your fave.
The Yerb. Beautiful people, great sound, colors. Royal Tinfoil is an amazing band and we had the pleasure to share the stage with them that night.
What/who have you been listening to lately?
Purity Ring and Diamond Messages… two wonderful acts.
What was your first concert?
A house show w/ Black Liquid and T-Division. Amazing night–great music.

Baltimore’s Let it Go recently played a house show here in RVA, and Ryan Pyle was there to shoot at least part of it.
Did you find yourself missing Shadrock Fest last weekend because of the rain, or the price? If so, Rebeccavc932 has you covered with a few videos she took of De La Soul.

The following video may be a little offensive to non-Christians, but it’s worth a second of your time. Chad Hulsey is someone who is either a minister or just a participant at the Richmond Outreach Center (it’s not clear from the video). He has taken Metallica’s cover of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page” and made the lyrics apply to his struggle to find God. Not only does Chad have a pretty good voice, stage presence, and command of his audience, but he also looks a little like Andy from Parks and Recreation. You might want to keep this from Metallica, though, because, well… napster.
This next band is called Pig Foot Riot, and they just played a show (4/27) at Capital Ale House. Here is “Big Bad Handsome Man.” Below is a photo of singer Elana Hyner, formerly of the Elana Hyner Trio (jazz).

This next band, Lightjars, doesn’t really have much of a web presence yet. However, they did just play at Gibson’s Grill (4/20), and posted a few songs from their set. Singer/songwriter Evan Z. Hoffman plays guitar in the band, but that’s all I could dig up.
Mr. McCall and DJ Ruffhandz (pictured below) collaborated on this next video that doesn’t technically have a name. Not bad.
Chris Sclafani is an alto saxophonist in the VCU jazz scene, and he recently uploaded a few videos from a recent performance with other jazz musicians. This song is called “The Gauntlet,” and is a slow-builder. Check out the picture, below, of Sclafani (on left) pepping up the VCU Rams basketball team’s fateful meeting with Indiana.

Finally, Double S has been in my head for the past week or two with this new jam “Inauguration.” He’s in party mode, but laid back. Supposedly there is more to come this summer.
