Richmond’s beloved psychedelic-roots-rock group The Southern Belles have been sweating it out in the studio since February to churn out their sophomore album, Close to Sunrise, which will drop July 1st.
The jam band was kind enough to give us a taste of the first single, “Getaway,” now streaming on their soundcloud.
“Getaway” is a fun, festive and breezy tune with a little twang on – that same Southern tone the band has become popular for. It’s definitely a song to get you dancing and while throwing back a whiskey or three.
It’s happy and upbeat and makes you reminisce on easier times. Perfect for summer.
It starts out slow with some drums and funky keyboard playing, but “Getaway” quickly picks up with a catchy little chorus.
The song definitely keeps you wanting more of what the guys have in store for the second album, which was recorded and produced by Bryan Walthall at the Legendary Sound of Music Studios here in Richmond.
Adrian Ciucci (guitar/vocals), Andrew Carper (bass/vocals) Tommy Booker (keys/vocals) and Raphael Katchinoff (drums/vocals) released their debut album Sharp as a Knife in 2012.
A few release parties, including two at The Camel July 3rd and 4th, are to follow, which will kick off a 17-day tour for The Southern Belles. The group will travel down south and head back to RVA for a show with Big Something at The Broadberry on July 17.
