TOMORROW NIGHT: Mansions On The Moon At Strange Matter!

by | Apr 13, 2012 | MUSIC

LA based chillwave band Mansions On The Moon makes their Lightyears Tour stop at Strange Matter tomorrow night for what should be considered as Richmond’s “diamond in the rough” live performance to this point in 2012. The trio, which includes keyboardist and Roanoke native Ben Hazelgrove, supplies a mantra of melody and ambient sound through live instrumentation. Their live setup consists of one member on a drum set, one on keyboard and synth production, and one on keyboard and live vocals. A small, intimate venue like Strange Matter is sure to make for one hell of a show, and provide a memory for those in attendance to look back on as a rarity once the group blows up and plays only for large company.

The tour highlights the release of their recent EP, Lightyears, which was produced by Virginia’s very own Pharrell Williams. A previous release called Paradise Falls was hosted by electronic producer extraordinaire, Diplo. This is not only evidence that influential figures in the music business are taking notice of the group but are also investing their time into the unique aesthetic which is Mansion’s sound.

We featured our two favorite tracks from Lightyears on WhiteRaverRafting.com. Check out “Desert Island” and “Leaves Fall” to get a better feel for what is coming to Strange Matter tomorrow night. Don’t expect this to be some raging dance party. Rather, look forward to a relaxed environment where you can enjoy drinks, dance, and conversation. Peace and love Richmond. Hope to see my city come out to show these guys some support.
