I enjoy witch house because it doesn’t have to sound good. I question if it’s even supposed to. It just has to feel good. A good witch house track lacks the slap-your-ass, over the top aspects of dubstep (much of which i don’t enjoy), but it still feels like it just slid its hand up your skirt. It’s dirty. Your feet bounce slightly when its on. It’s a party of people on methadone. I like oOoOO, and I’m pumped for them to come to town. Consider spending your Tuesday at Strange Matter. Drink a Faygo and vodka. Get a little weird.

Hydrophonic, “heavy-blues metal from San Fran,” will be opening. Not sure how cock rock fits the bill, but they do know how to riff. No, actually, I’m kidding–the Hydrophonics on this bill is a one-man project from RVA’s own Evan Morris, incorporating tape loops and beat mashes that should fit well with oOoOO’s more chilled-out recent sounds. You’ll also hear RVA faves Mutwawa, Anduin, and Negative Gemini–three great projects that you should already be aware of if you’re following the local electronic music scene at all.
It all happens tonight starting at 9 PM at Strange Matter (929 W. Grace St). Admission is $12 in advance (though if you’re seeing this post after 6 AM, advance sales have ended–here’s the link anyway for you early birds: http://ooooorva.eventbrite.com/), or $15 at the door.
