Bass mavens of central VA, get ready, because it’s time for another visit from Rusko! This UK dubstep producer has been through the area several times over the past half-decade or so, and we’ve seen him tear down the house on multiple occasions. Now he’s back with another US tour, and he’ll be bringing his bass-heavy beats to the Jefferson Theater next Wednesday, October 16. Rusko, who started out in the world of dubstep back when it was still a dark, reggae-infused UK subgenre with his foulmouthed, Snatch-sampling single “Cockney Thug,” has evolved quite a bit in the years since. His second LP, Songs, indicated a growing melodic sense, mixing heavy dubstep drops with an upbeat house-derived euphoria. Rusko further demonstrated his range with some high-profile production work, including several tracks from MIA’s MAYA album and a 2012 collaborative EP with Cypress Hill entitled Cypress X Rusko, as well as remixing everyone from Adele and Lady Gaga to Basement Jaxx and The Prodigy. His latest release is the Lift Me Up EP, featuring a title track driven simultaneously by speedy, upbeat melodies and brutal bass drops. Check it out below:

Also on tour with Rusko will be jungle legend Roni Size, along with his Reprazent cohort, Dynamite MC. Reprazent’s original claim to fame began with their Mercury Prize-winning 1997 debut, New Forms, and the group has been working together off and on ever since. Size and Dynamite MC have achieved significant credibility as solo artists as well, and with the two of them constituting half of Reprazent, we can imagine that this tour will feature the best of both artists’ solo and collaborative works. Get familiar with Reprazent by checking out the video for their 2009 single, “Brown Paper Bag,” below:

Between Rusko and two different members of Reprazent, this is going to be an action packed evening of UK dance grooves that’ll keep you dancing until the wee hours. You’ll definitely want to be there!
