That’s right everyone, prepare to get rocked by the legendary veterans of Canadian thrash metal, Anvil! Touring the US behind their recent career anthology, Monument Of Metal, Anvil will be bringing their hard n’ heavy live show to Strange Matter this Wednesday. As any of you who saw the 2008 documentary Anvil!: The Story Of Anvil, this band has had a long and difficult journey to achieve the sort of widespread recognition that had slipped from their grasp back in their early 80s heyday–recognition they are finally achieving at a time when the band’s founding members, Steve Kudlow and Robb Reiner, have reached middle age. But the novelty factor is not the reason to come see them–it’s the fact that, regardless of how many records they’ve sold over the years, Anvil are a legitimately awesome metal band. Fans of Judas Priest, Venom, early Metallica, and Iron Maiden will find something to appreciate in their music for sure. With opening acts Volture–a local metal supergroup featuring members from Municipal Waste and Parasytic, among others–and Battlemaster side project Dragonship, the entire evening’s going to be a blast of heavy metal awesomeness, so you really don’t want to miss out!

WHAT: Anvil Live At Strange Matter!
WHO: Anvil, Volture, Dragonship
WHERE: Strange Matter, 929 W. Grace St.
WHEN: Wednesday, February 1, 9 PM
ADMISSION: $15

And now, to get you hyped for the show, we’ve got a couple of videos. The first is from the 25th Annual Independent Spirit Awards, at which Anvil!: The Story Of Anvil won the award for Best Documentary Feature, and Anvil performed their all-time classic anthem, “Metal On Metal.” The second is a video of sorts that was put together for “Juggernaut Of Justice,” the lone new song that was included on Monument Of Metal. These videos prove that, both live and in the studio, Anvil are still a great band. This show is gonna rule.
