Weekend Frequency Vol. 2 | Classic Hip-Hop, Modern Soul & House Grooves Mix by Hip Hop Henry

by | Mar 7, 2025 | MUSIC

Music is the lifeblood of a city. The late-night sets, the sweat-soaked venues, the dusty record bins filled with someone else’s memories. Richmond gets this. Always has. So here’s Weekend Frequency—a weekly, reader-curated playlist built for the city, by the city.

It’s a revival, really. A continuation of our RVA Mag Weekend Playlists, a series we ran for years before the world flipped upside down. 103 playlists deep, featuring artists—local legends and global names alike—who know how to set the right tone. Dig into the full archive HERE, if you’re feeling nostalgic. Otherwise, just press play.

This week’s Weekend Frequency comes straight from the deep crates of Hip Hop Henry, longtime DJ, contributor to the mag and record shop veteran with an ear for timeless grooves.

“I’m very in the moment when it comes to the music I’m listening to so the more recent playlists are usually what’s been on the turntable in the house or the Bluetooth in the car. This playlist is a pretty much the natural progression of my musical tastes lately, still blast the hiphop classics but I’ve been dabbling in more recent soul records from here and the UK, also been heavily into the house music as well.

My ear is always beat-centric so I made sure to add some of my favorite producers and Richmond homies as well. Sequenced so that it will take you on a musical journey through the scope of yours truly. Enjoy” — Hip Hop Henry.

ed. note: We want to hear what you’ve been listening to. Each week we’ll turn over the playlist to one of our readers giving you the chance to shares what’s been on your turntable, headphones, or blasting through your speakers. Drop us a line at  hello@rvamag.com with Weekend Frequency in the subject line, along with 15 tracks and one paragraph telling our readers why you chose the songs you did.
