by | Apr 12, 2025 | FUNK & JAZZ, HIP HOP & RAP, MUSIC, WEEKEND PLAYLIST

Music is the lifeblood of our city. The late-night sets, the sweat-soaked venues, the dusty record bins filled with sonic treasures and hidden frequencies. Richmond gets this— more than any other city in Virginia. So here’s Weekend Frequency—a weekly, reader-curated playlist built for the city, by the city.

Part revival and part continuation of our RVA Mag Weekend Playlists that we curated before the world flipped upside down in 2020, feel free to dig through our entire archive of 103 playlists here. Each playlist is curated by local legends and national artists alike, setting an undeniable weekend vibe.

This week’s Weekend Frequency comes straight from game-changing Richmond rapper Troy.

I’ve had at least two twelve inch subwoofers in my whip since I was nineteen so I listen to a lot of music that would make your trunk rattle but Recently I’ve met Ronnie luxe and her voice expanded my Selection broader.

This is the way I live. Lil’ Boy still pushin’ big wheels. I stack my money, lay low, and chill. Don’t need to work hard that’s the way I feel, I feel. The way I live – baby boy da prince.”

In a world where corporations and wealthy individuals now shape much of our media landscape, RVA Magazine remains fiercely independent, amplifying the voices of Richmond’s artists, musicians, and community. Since 2005, we’ve been dedicated to authentic, grassroots storytelling that highlights the people and culture shaping our city.

But we can’t do this without you. A small donation, even as little as $2 – one-time or recurring – helps us continue to produce honest, local coverage free from outside interference.
