Ladies and gentlemen, the best psychedelic bands of both the northern and southern hemispheres have combined forces for one amazing American tour–and if you’re really lucky, you can see it for free! The Flaming Lips will be joining Tame Impala for a week of East Coast dates this fall, and one of those dates will be Friday, October 4 at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Tickets for this show go on sale this Friday, June 28, but we’ve got a pair of lawn tickets to give away right now, which you’ll be able to win before they’re even available to buy. Pretty awesome, right? Yeah, we thought so too.

Oklahoma City’s weirdo alt-psych legends The Flaming Lips are touring behind their 13th album and first consisting entirely of new original material since 2009’s Embryonic, The Terror. Mixing the gorgeous wall of sound and melancholy lyrics of the band’s breakthrough albums, The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, with the darker, more experimental styles explored on Embryonic, The Terror takes the group in a challenging and spooky direction that still makes clear the immensity of their talent and creative drive.

Meanwhile, Perth, Australia’s favorite sons, Tame Impala, followed up their international breakthrough hit, Innerspeaker, with last fall’s Lonerism incorporating synth sounds and pop melodies into the group’s originally more guitar-driven retro-psych sound. Drawing influence from 70s pop songwriters like Todd Rundgren and expanding the band’s lineup to make recreating their studio sounds easier in the live environment, Tame Impala shows off a fuller and more versatile sound than at any previous point in their history.

The combination of these two creatively fascinating groups, along with opener The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger (featuring Sean Lennon), will make for an incredible night of sights and sounds that will take you on a wild astral journey without ever leaving Columbia, MD. You know you’ve got to be there! Tickets go on sale Friday morning at 10 AM, so get your credit cards and your mouse-clicking fingers ready!
