Win Tickets To See Manchester Orchestra At The National!

For a five-piece indie rock band, Manchester Orchestra is quite appropriately named. Their dramatic musical epics are like pocket symphonies, combining the pensive, reverb-soaked Southern alt-country of My Morning Jacket with the emotional crescendos of Smashing Pumpkins, or more recent work by Brand New.

But even this description doesn’t really capture what they’re doing–you really should just check out their songs for yourself, if you haven’t already. Their latest single, “After The Scripture,” was released last week, as part of the soundtrack to the upcoming indie film Dallas Buyers Club, starring Matthew McConaughey and a cross-dressing Jared Leto. The song is dramatic enough to both fit in with the film’s intense subject matter and to stand with the best of Manchester Orchestra’s previous work. Check it out for yourself:

Manchester Orchestra are currently touring around the US, in preparation for the release of their fourth album (no release date as yet, but we’re expecting it in early 2014). They’re accompanied on this jaunt by The Front Bottoms, an acoustic guitar driven emo/pop-punk band currently supporting their fourth album, Talon Of The Hawk, released earlier this year. Here’s the video for that album’s big single, “Twin Size Mattress”:

Atlanta rockers O’Brother will be kicking off the evening with their intriguing band of heavy yet melodic rock n’ roll. Similar to other southeast post-metal bands like Baroness and Torche, O’Brother have found a way to mix a thick, heavy rhythm section and melodic choruses without stinting on either the heaviness or the pop. Check out “Transience,” from their latest album, Disillusion:

With all of these great bands in the house on Sunday night, The National is the place to be, so make sure you’re in attendance!
