You guys are in for a treat this week–one of my personal favorite indie-rock bands of the past two decades, Nada Surf, is bringing their excellent emotionally-driven alternative rock to the 9:30 Club on Tuesday, December 11. First achieving fame with their hit single “Popular,” off their 1996 debut album High/Low, Nada Surf survived the alt-rock implosion of the late 90s and emerged during the past decade as one of the most consistent indie rock groups on the scene.

Currently touring behind their seventh album, The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy–their fourth album on longtime label Barsuk, also home to Death Cab For Cutie–Nada Surf are boasting a beefed-up live lineup with the recent addition of former Guided By Voices/Cobra Verde lead guitarist Doug Gillard.
This new four-piece version of Nada Surf promises to give longtime fans a new thrill at their live dexterity, while still delivering in fine fashion on their deep catalog of resplendent pop gems. Their 2005 classic The Weight Is A Gift was one of the best albums released that year in any genre, and The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy is of more than sufficient quality to earn them similar accolades this year. Plus, Roanoke’s Eternal Summers will also be performing, bringing the sound of their outstanding second album, Correct Behavior, to bigger stages and bigger crowds than ever before! Down below, we’ve got a live video from Nada Surf, filmed earlier this year for Seattle’s KEXP FM. It’s an acoustic performance, so it doesn’t have the kind of guitar crunch that these guys are capable of delivering on their best records, but it just highlights singer/guitarist Matthew Caws’ gift for beautifully written and sung choruses, which he shows off here on “Clear Eye, Clouded Mind,” the opening track from The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy. This video is awesome enough, but when you consider that Nada Surf will be delivering the same musical quality at a much higher volume on December 11, how can you even contemplate the possibility of not being there?
