OK, this is awesome. Postpunk/new wave legends New Order, who spent most of the last decade broken up, are back together and touring the USA once again–and we’re trying to send some lucky RVA Mag readers to their show at Merriweather Post Pavilion for free! Reuniting in 2011 with 3/4 of their original lineup–singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner, keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, and drummer Stephen Morris, who are now joined by guitarist/keyboardist Phil Cunningham and bassist Tom Chapman–the band has returned to action with the release earlier this year of Lost Sirens. This eight-song mini-LP collects tracks recorded at the same time as 2005’s Waiting For The Siren’s Call and demonstrates New Order’s continued facility with both guitar-driven alternative pop (“I’ll Stay With You,” “Californian Grass”) and electronic disco grooves (“Sugarcane,” “Shake It Up”). And of course fans can expect to hear a wide selection of classic tunes from their three-decade career–“Bizarre Love Triangle,” “Age Of Consent,” “Blue Monday,” “Regret,” and so many more. It’s gonna be a great time, and you won’t wanna miss it!

WHAT: New Order Sets Merriweather Post Pavilion In Motion!
WHO: New Order, Holy Ghost!
WHERE: Merriweather Post Pavilion, 10475 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia MD
WHEN: Sunday, July 28, Doors open at 5:30 PM
ADMISSION: $40-$75; advance tickets available HERE

Best of all, you could be seeing New Order for free! One lucky RVA Mag reader will win a pair of lawn tickets to see New Order at Merriweather Post Pavilion, and it could be you if you enter your info into the handy little box below this paragraph. Don’t dawdle, though–this contest ends on Friday at 5 PM! Enter now, and keep an eye out for extra chances to win.

And just in case you were wondering if New Order have still “got it” in the live arena, wonder no more. Instead, check out this amazing performance of “I’ll Stay With You,” from Lost Sirens, live on the Jimmy Kimmel Show back in April. They’re not as young as they once were, it’s true, but their patented brand of vaguely wistful but irresistibly melodic new wave doesn’t age at all, and they rock the Kimmel audience with effortless skill. Enjoy!
