Ladies and gentlemen, RVA Magazine is pleased to bring you this amazing opportunity to see Queens Of The Stone Age at Merriweather Post Pavilion next month for free! We’re lucky enough to have a pair of tickets to give away to this show, and we’ll be passing them along to one lucky RVA Mag winner. Queens Of The Stone Age probably need no introduction, so suffice it to say that they’ll be touring behind last year’s epic sixth album, Like Clockwork, which features the usual quotient of awesome jams like “Keep Your Eyes Peeled,” performed live here on KCRW:

If Queens Of The Stone Age themselves were the only band on this bill, that would be more than reason enough to go–but they’re not. Direct support for this show will be provided by the one and only St. Vincent. If we call Annie Clark a “singer/songwriter,” you might be fooled into expecting a solo performer with an acoustic guitar or a piano, so let’s be clear–this woman can shred. She does so to excellent effect on all of her albums, including her self-titled fourth album, released in February. Here’s St. Vincent performing that album’s lead single, “Birth In Reverse,” for AMEX Unstaged; take note not only of the catchy chorus but also the blazing solo (complete with precise choreography):

And of course, don’t forget the opener, Brody Dalle, who is not only Josh Homme’s wife but also the Australian punk rocker best known for her work as the frontwoman for The Distillers. That band, and its successor, Spinerette, have both departed this mortal coil, but Dalle has a brand new solo album called Diploid Love. Its leadoff single, “Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy,” has a vaguely industrial tinge to its catchy punk riffing, and features Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Emily Kokal (Warpaint) on backing vocals. Check out the song’s strange but fascinating animated video:

All of these artists will come together next month, on Thursday July 17 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, for an amazing show that’ll be a great way to spend an evening outdoors on the lawn. Wear your Doc Martens, because it’s time to dance!
