Win Tickets To See White Lies At The 9:30 Club!

by | Feb 4, 2014 | MUSIC

British indie band White Lies will be coming through Washington DC on February 22, and your friends at RVA Mag have got the hookup! While this postpunk band, whose music is comparable to Joy Division, Interpol, or first-LP Killers, haven’t quite gotten the same amount of mainstream acclaim in the US as they’ve received in their native United Kingdom, they are certainly not a group you will want to miss.

They released their third album, Big TV, last summer, and the album’s first single, “There Goes Our Love Again,” is an insanely catchy tune in which the band’s lead singer, Harry McVeigh, shows off his incredible range. He takes his dramatic baritone voice to unexpected heights on the chorus in a move that’s reminiscent of Echo And the Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch’s best moments. On top of that, the song has a video that features an amazing Bollywood-style dance sequence. See for yourself:

White Lies may not engage in elaborate dance numbers during their performance, but they’re guaranteed to wow you with their live performance at the 9:30 Club. And what’s more, they’re bringing Frankie Rose with them as an opening act–which means you better show up on time. Formerly a member of Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, and Vivian Girls, Frankie has achieved great heights since going solo back in 2009. Her third album, Herein Wild, was one of last year’s great sleeper hits, as can be easily detected upon a single listen to the album’s incredible advance single, “Sorrow.” Hear it below:

And so, as you can see, there are multiple good reasons for you to show up at the 9:30 Club to see White Lies and Frankie Rose on Saturday, February 22… and no reason not to, that we can see! Don’t give us any excuses–make sure you’re there!
