GOP hopeful Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a rally at the Richmond International Raceway this Wednesday, but Democratic-hopeful Hilary Clinton would win if the race was held today, according to
a new poll from Christopher Newport University.

The poll from CNU’s Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy surveyed 1,067
registered Virginia voters from Sept. 29 – Oct. 8, 2015 and the results were just released this weekend.

Among the numbers is a single digit lead for Clinton vs. any of the current GOP candidates – 47 to 40 (Trump).

Clinton’s favorability, however, falls below the still unofficial candidacy of Vice. Pres. Joe Biden, who comes out as the most favorable candidate across both parties.

Binden slides in (46%) on top of GOP Candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson (44%). Clinton came in third most favorable at 39%.

Despite his lead among GOP voters – 23% vs Ben Carson’s 17% – Trump was found to be the least favorable at 61% vs. Clinton’s 53%

When it comes to possible Democratic candidates besides Clinton, Biden and Vermont Senator/Internet darling Bernie Sanders are tied at 23% vs. Clinton’s 40%.

When ask about second choices, VA Dems still put Biden ahead of Sanders 37% v. 11%.

The two Virginia politicians in the race – former governor Jim Gilmore or former senator Jim Webb – you’d think there would be some home-team love, but you’d be wrong.

“Both Gilmore and Webb have favorability ratings at 22%,” reads the study. “Almost half (46%) say they don’t know enough about Webb to have a view.”

Virginia’s status as a swing state makes it a great beacon to watch as we get closer to election day. And living here in Richmond we get a particularly unique view as folks from the suburbs mix with those living in the city.

We’ve still got a while on the road to the 2016 elections, but your chance to see Trump in person happens this week – you can snag tickets here – We’ll be at the Raceway to see what happens.
