Everyday we get studies sent to us and this one comes with a bit of news out of left field. If you’re a single person residing in Richmond, Virginia, then you are in luck! The Thriving Center of Psychology (ed. note: Is this a legit institution? It looks to be a therapy marketing site! ) conducted a survey and along with data from the latest US Census, they found that our city boasts the highest population of singles per capita in the country with Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Newark, and Cincinnati also in the top five cities for singles.

We are top 10 for single people identifying as men and women. That is kinda wild to think about.

Following that information, they found that while many singles find happiness in their independence, nearly one-third of those surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with their single status, with half of them missing physical affection and 23% simply disliking being alone. Furthermore, nearly half of those surveyed fear being single forever, and over 75% do not trust family or friends to set them up on blind dates.

When people are preparing for dates, singles are doing more than just dressing up. More than 1 in 3 (38%) admitted to stalking their date online. 51% of women versus 25% of men said they’ve looked up the person online. In fact, 29% spend more than 20 minutes researching a date.

Nearly 1 in 6 (14%) confessed to it, while 19% say a date has admitted to looking them up. Others don’t just rely on Google searches when researching a potential partner. Nearly 1 in 5 (18%) have run a background check on their date.

However, being single also has its advantages. The majority of respondents (91%) reported enjoying their independence, and 58% reported having more financial stability, with 24% stating that therapy has helped them become their best selves before entering into another relationship.
