Bay Grass Update #13: Into the wild

by | May 3, 2017 | COMMUNITY NEWS

I’m about to be an empty nester.

That’s right – even though I knew the planting would be right around the corner, time has gotten away from us here at RVA Mag, and we’ll be saying farewell to our grasses on Monday.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation kindly reached out to us earlier this week about setting up a planting area and time where growers for Grasses for the Masses select an area and time that works for them, and bring their grasses to the river to bring this four-month long process to completion.

It looks like we’ll be taking a road trip to Chickahominy Riverfront Park near Williamsburg for our own planting date – about an hour away from Richmond. Whatever fossil fuels we burn hopefully will be cancelled out by our grass contribution. That’s how it works, right?

We’re also super excited to spend some time at the park, which is a brand new planting site this year that the CBF leadership and park managers coordinated and is something to be very proud of. In particular, I’m excited to talk face-to-face with other grass-growers I’ve come to be familiar with via the Facebook group. Everyone: please don’t be intimidated by my obvious grass growing prowess upon meeting me. I’m a regular gal, just like you.

Tune back on Wednesday for an update of how the road trip and event turns out. Hopefully along the way I can get our Web Editor Brad Kutner to buy me Cheez-Its. Road trip snacks are imperative. I mean I work for free, Brad.

Email the Editor Brad Kutner at hello@rvamag.com to support my snack demands. Thank you, good night.
