Man Arrested at VCU for Yelling Racial Slurs

A man has been arrested on VCU’s campus in front of the James Branch Cabell Library for yelling racial slurs at passing students while holding a racist sign. In a video posted to YouTube by Noah McKinney, a young white man can be seen yelling inflammatory remarks to a crowd of gathering students. At one point he can be heard shouting, “you need to learn how to grow up and not be threatened by words” and “you’re the ones being hateful” when the students confront the man about using the n-word.

Before being ushered away, campus police can be seen putting the man on his knees before handcuffing him in front of the crowd. A student watching can be heard shouting “bye asshole” before the crowd erupts in cheers.

It is not yet clear if this man was acting on his own, or part of a wider organization or protest planned for VCU’s campus. RVA Mag reached out to VCU’s campus police and according to their public information officer, the man who was arrested was named Tyler W. Lloyd, 27, from North Chesterfield. He was arrested in the earlier part of the morning for trespassing and was arrested a second time for the incident this afternoon, also for trespassing. Police have reported that he is neither a student or employee of VCU.
