The Richmond Comedy Coalition is holding a truly bizarre and unique event tonight.
At their Coalition Theater on Broad st., two screens will be projecting different portions of the 2011 action movie Fast Five, the fifth installment of the Fast and Furious movies.
David Pijor, Creative director at the Coalition Theater, explained the viewing experience best he could. “There will be two projector screens – On one screen are all the action scenes from Fast Five, On the other screen, all the emotional scenes from Fast Five,” he said. “Using provided headsets, the audience member chooses their audio: the action sequences, the dialogue scenes, or live actors’ commentary.”
The live actors commentary track will actually be Coalition members Jim Zarling (as Vin Diesel) and Adam Stackhouse (as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) riffing on the movie.
The first time they tried “dueling movies” they pitted the two classic 1997 volcano movies Donte’s Peak and Volcano. Next they did the original Star Wars: Episode IV vs Star Wars Uncut, a fan made Star Wars movie. “You’d be watching the original Star Wars with the fan made dialogue,” said Pijor. “It’s pretty precise.”
“So this time, they went weirder…” joked Pijor about the Fast Five project set for tonight.
The multiple audio tracks are the brain child of Stackhouse who runs the interactive audio company AVAdventure. “It’s kind of a weird concept,” admitted Pijor.
The event is totally free, so head on out to the Coalition Theater at 10 PM tonight at 8 W Broad St.
