Calling all expert beer pours.

The second annual Capital Ale House National Beer Expo is coming to the Greater Richmond Convention Center July 16-18. Craft beer lovers will have the chance to taste over 200 craft brews from Virginia and other breweries across the country.

All of the proceeds are going to LINC, a non-profit organization that works with cancer patients and their families to provide help with financial and legal issues with the help of pro-bono attorneys and financial planners and they need your help.

LINC is coordinating the volunteer efforts for the expo and the organization needs volunteers for Friday’s food event and the main event on Saturday. LINC is looking for people to pour and serve beer for the “Taco Throwdown” event on Friday where 16 chefs will be whipping up different kinds of tacos. Beer pourers are needed for the main event, the walk-around grand tasting, and educational seminars such as “Brewers of Virginia” on Saturday as well.

In addition to volunteers pouring the good stuff, LINC also needs people to check attendees in as well as people to act as “floaters,” relieving other volunteers who are pouring beer when they need a break.

Ashleigh Crocker, Volunteer Coordinator for LINC, said the oganization needs about 250-300 volunteers.

“We’re looking for approximately 80 to 90 volunteers for the Taco Throwdown then we are looking for approximately 200 for the day of grand tasting and there’s also some seminars and we need about 15 volunteers for those,” she said.

Crocker said LINC already has about 115 volunteers recruited with some signed up for multiple shifts.

She added that they’ve had a good amount of people sign up for the Taco Throwdown on Friday, but Saturday is where they really need more hands.

“We need the most volunteers for the big event on Saturday, the grand walk around tasting so that’s what we’re recruiting hard for,” she said.

Obviously you have to be 21 to pour and willing to stand there for six hours to pour beer, but it’s inside so you’ll be out of that July heat!

Crocker said LINC is still working out the volunteer incentives, but it could possibly include free beer and other perks.

To sign up, you can visit LInc’s website and click on the Capital Ale House National Beer Expo link on the side of their site and it will take you to LINC’s volunteer sign up form.

The second annual Capital Ale House National Beer Expo is expected to draw 800 to 1,000 people. Tickets are on sale now and range from $8 to $90.
