As the economy continues to sway, and click bait sites continue to scrape the barrel, Richmond keeps becoming internet famous for all the wrong reasons.

Now we can add “example of local economic fallout” to our list of achievements as Buzzfeed has chosen to highlight the old Cloverleaf Mall in a new list of abandoned malls.

Here’s more from BF:

Dead malls are popping up all over the states, particularly in the Midwest, where economic decline has sped up the “going out of business” process. This map, put together by a Dead Malls Enthusiasts Facebook group, shows that well.

As Americans are faced with multiple shopping options and more stores are leaving malls, it should be interesting to see if malls and mall culture will survive.

What you are about to see is what happens when malls are abandoned. It’s apocalyptic and really, really creepy.

As for Cloverleaf in specific, Buzzfeed gave some simple background – it’s nice of them to wrap up our economic despair in four sentences. Meanwhile Cloverleaf was, in the 70’s, a pretty big deal. The Chesterfield Observer called it “suburbia’s version of a downtown,” which says a lot considering it’s Chesterfield.

Head on over to Buzzfeed to see the rest of the list.
