Did An Anti-Shockoe Bottom Stadium Protest Group Buy Billboard Space On I-95?

We’re seeing pictures of the above billboard getting shared around on Facebook, and they appear to be legit.

We’re seeing pictures of the above billboard getting shared around on Facebook, and they appear to be legit. As of right now, it looks like they’re originating from the Facebook page of a group called Shockoe Resistance, who also just posted an indiegogo campaign attempting to raise money for more media promotion of their viewpoint. With a slogan of “No Shockoe Stadium. Not Today. Not Tomorrow. Never.” this group is making their resistance to Mayor Jones’s plan clear–but can their money and media promotion really sway the opinions of some of the most powerful businesses and government officials involved with the city’s current Shockoe Bottom plan? And in light of the fact that this entire Shockoe Resistance campaign just started, the question must be asked–who’s paying for the billboards that have already appeared?

RVA Magazine will be keeping tabs on this story as it develops, but as of right now, it appears that at least one faction of the opposition to the baseball stadium in Shockoe Bottom, which has always been vocal, has stepped up its efforts. Do you think this will help their cause? And do you agree or disagree with the opposition? Tell us about it in the comments. And read RVA Magazine’s previous coverage of this issue HERE.
