In the wake of the shocking and tragic death of GWAR founder and lead vocalist Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus, the Slave Pit has determined that the show must go on. This year’s GWAR-B-Q, scheduled for August 16 at Hadad’s Lake, will take place, preceded by a public memorial for Brockie to take place on August 15 at the same location.

GWAR manager Jack Flanagan said in a public statement that this course of action is “as Dave and Oderus would have wanted.” He went on to say, “Knowing that we have such amazing family, friends and fans is truly helping us all get through this tough time.”

Flanagan reports that the GWAR family are awaiting a toxicology report from the medical examiner’s office to learn the cause of death. “The medical examiner’s office has informed us that the results can take one to three months to be processed,” Flanagan said. “Standard protocol exists that a toxicology procedure be performed.”

Hadad’s Lake, located at 7900 Osborne Turnpike, in Richmond’s East End, has been the location for the GWAR-B-Q for most of the past several years. In addition to hosting the GWAR-B-Q on Saturday, August 16 this year, it will also host a public memorial for Dave Brockie on Friday, August 15. A private memorial for friends and family will be held separately.

Tickets for the 2014 GWAR-B-Q are not yet on sale. We’ll bring you more information about this event as we learn of it.
