Kulture, a staple for hand blown glass and accessories in RVA for over fifteen years, is known for it’s Made-in-the-US-only made glass and a high level of craftsmanship. Jimmy Conway, the CBO of Kulture spoke about the success he has had over the past decade +, and what makes the store so unique.
The new location has most of the inventory from the Shockoe Bottom location which will become more of an outlet/warehouse and Conway said a change in sales was a factor in selecting the new location.

“We just saw a drop in numbers and our customers, we’ve given them other options like we have a shop on Hull Street, and a store in the West End now,” said Conway. “So why come all the way to Shockoe Bottom when you can come to the other stores.”
Conway has his own theories as to why business in the Bottom is hard, saying he didn’t “think the city cares about it anymore.”
Don’t worry those in the Bottom, though – The store there will still carry ‘everyday necessities’ and everything will be 20% off all the time.
As far as opening up a new head shop goes there are laws and guidelines you have to abide by but Conway said there wasn’t a lot of hurdles to jump over since he’s been at this game for some time. “We were on of the first people to start opening up in Richmond 16 years ago.”

Kulture was recently voted Best Head Shop by Style Weekly for the fourth year in a row. Conway joked he would have won the competition every year if they started it 15 years ago.
“It’s in the name, it’s Kulture. It’s a lifestyle really. We’re not just a head shop, we’re a brand,” said Conway as to how he’s found so much success. “We do our own papers, we have our own clothing. We’re involved in a lot of things in Richmond as well. We have been for 15 years. We cater to everybody from 18-years-old to 70-years-old so you never know who’s going to walk into the store.”
So make your way down to the beautiful new Cary Street location or visit one of their other locations in the West End, Midlothian, Shockoe Bottom, and in Charlottesville. Also make sure to stop by July 25th at the Cary Street location for an in-store meet and greet with Curren$y.
