A rumored sequel to the 2008 Will Farrell and John C. Riley movie “Step Brothers” is NOT being filmed in Richmond, despite one website’s claim otherwise.
A rumored sequel to the 2008 Will Farrell and John C. Riley movie “Step Brothers” is NOT being filmed in Richmond, despite one website’s claim otherwise.
The website LocallNews33 put up a story today proclaiming filming was set to start here in RVA this fall.
“Few details concerning the plot have been released but insider sources are claiming that it involves the two step brothers, both now with menial jobs, living in an apartment together in Richmond, Virginia,” reads the post on the site which actually bills itself as a “fantasy news site” where “all news articles… are satire or pure fantasy.”
A call placed to the Virginia Film office straightened things out (sadly).
“I made sure to double check with all here and we haven’t received any inquiries for that project,” said Margaret Finucane, a rep with the VA Film Office, which helps movies get produced here in the Commonwealth. Not only had Finucane’s office not heard about production, she also admitted Virginia wasn’t exactly production-friendly enough for a project of such a size, saying “a movie of that scale would like require many millions in incentives, which would exceed what Virginia currently allocates to our tax credit program.”
“It looks like this might be one of those ad sites that target you based on your location. Boooooo,” Finucane said candidly.
And to further dash the hopes of those hoping for a sequel to the legendary original (And perhaps a return to the Catalina Wine mixer! BOATS AND HOES), don’t get your hopes up.
The folks at ScreenCrush caught up with some of those involved in the original’s production and they were “assured… that Step Brothers 2 is no closer to happening now than it was earlier this year when Adam McKay told IGN (among other outlets), “Not right now, man.””
