Several hundred demonstrators gathered at Capitol Square Park on Saturday for the International Women’s Day – Unite & Resist march, voicing opposition to policies that threaten civil rights and marginalized communities.
The rally, which began at noon, drew advocates from across the region calling for gender equity, reproductive rights, free speech protections, environmental justice, and immigration reform. Protesters held signs and chanted as they marched from the Capitol to Monroe Park, where organizers hosted a letter-writing campaign urging attendees to contact local legislators.
“This is about more than just one issue—it’s about standing together against all forms of oppression,” said one organizer. “International Women’s Day is a reminder that we still have a long way to go.”
While many joined the march, others remained at Capitol Square to continue demonstrating. The event was one of several protests held nationwide on March 8, highlighting concerns over policies enacted by the current administration.
