Vinyl is very much making a comeback with 11.9 million records sold last year, experiencing a 30% increase in sales, whereas digital sales went down 12.5%. Last year was also the first time where back catalog albums (meaning released at least 18 months prior) outsold current releases. It is definitely the time to go back in time.
That being said, a lot of those sales went on at corporate retailers rather than the local operations who are still very much struggling to keep their doors open. Which is the reason that Record Store Day (RSD) exists, to bring much needed love and attention to independent stores.
RSD has been going on over a decade now and this year it’s happening on Saturday April 16. Stores will have new releases that were pressed just for the occasion. This year’s round up includes artists like David Bowie, GWAR, The Weeknd and Violent Femmes to name a few. To see the full list of releases you can go here.

They’ll have a plethora of vinyls from the RSD release list as well as giveaways and live in store music starting at 10am. Music line up:

Their first RSD. No RSD releases, but 10 percent off all used vinyl, 20 percent more on trade ins and new releases that are more WM genre-oriented. The record store will also have a big flea market/craft fair in the event space next door (handmade jewelry, tarot readings, clothes, records, vhs, etc. )

322 W Broad St
Opens at 11. Will have three Djs. A selection of the RSD releases as well as a lot of new stock. Sidewalk sale with $1 LPs and quarter forty five’s.
“It’s a great way to get people out,” said manager Marty Key. Concentrating more this year on having quality records over the complete RSD list.

Opens at 11. Will have an in house DJ. A selection of RSD releases and a sidewalk giveaway of an expensive turntable. Will also have more used stock than usual. “We celebrate RSD for the community aspect.” Will be having a big sidewalk sale the following weekend. (With all records out front of the shop selling for 50 cents on Friday, 25 cents on Saturday and anything free with a donation on Sunday! If you bring a stack of 25 records to the counter then we’ll round down and ring you up for only $5 dollars worth! Bring 50 and spend only $10!)
There will also be a record and music show held by Stand Still Music at the Quality Inn Suites at 3200 W. Broad St. from 9:30am to 4pm with thousands of vinyls from vast genres as well as free giveaways.
