With the mayhem known as Black Friday upon us this week, the deals are here and the sales are endless. But after the fanfare is over, it can be hard to determine whether the purchases made will last and be cherished in the coming years.

However, with Record Store Day’s Black Friday event, you can be sure to be find a vinyl release which will stand the test of time–provided you don’t have a bad needle on your record player.

Releases this year include a colored vinyl reprint of Aaliyah’s Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, Against Me!’s The Daytrotter Sessions 7 inch, Husker Du’s Warehouse: Songs And Stories 12 inch, Mastodon’s The Motherload 12 inch picture disc (I WANT THIS!), Roy Orbison’s At The Rock House 12 inch reprint, and MANY MANY MORE!

Check out this video for a pretty lengthy run down:

Record Store Day, which began in 2007, is an event during which a confederation of independent record stores across the world sell limited runs of vinyl records from various artists on the third Saturday of April.

These stores do a variety of additional giveaways and sales throughout the year, including their annual Black Friday event, which began in 2011. There is a list of all of the releases happening on the 28th, which you can view here.

There are several local stores here in Richmond participating in Record Store Day’s Black Friday. Not every store will have all of the releases listed, so be sure to call and ask around to what they have.

Plan 9 Music: opening at 10am on Friday. All listed records above should be available.
