City Council forum moderated by Chris Dovi planned for Tuesday (9/20) at Diversity Richmond

While RVA’s political cycle has been dominated by conversations about the new Mayor, an equality important question will be on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 8th – who will represent your District on City Council.

While RVA’s political cycle has been dominated by conversations about the new Mayor, an equality important question will be on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 8th – who will represent your District on City Council.

The forum is part of a series of 4 events to be held over the next month – each dealing with a different election on the ticket this year.

But Tuesday’s event, moderated by famed local journalist and rabble rouser is sure to be one of the best chances to get insight into each of the 25+ candidates hopes and plans for their district.

Forum topics include everything from what the city should do about public housing to how to mitigate the negative effects of gentrification in old neighborhoods.

“We’re very excited to once again give citizens a chance to see and hear all the candidates for office in this cycle,” said Roland Winston, a Community Activist and lead organizer for the events. “Community participation and citizen education is a hallmark of a vibrant democracy and all the groups involved in these forums are dedicated to bringing candidates and voters together in meaningful dialog.”

The forum starts at 6 PM tomorrow, Tuesday 6/20, at 6 PM, at Diversity Richmond -1407 Sherwood Ave, Richmond VA.

And if you miss the live event, tune in to WRIR 97.3 LP-FM this Friday, 9/23 at 9 AM, during Open Source RVA where segments of the forum will be rebroadcast.

A mess of local and state-wide groups are sponsoring the event including A Philip Randolph Institute, Advocates for Equality in Schools, Alliance for a Progressive Virginia, , Brown Virginia, Diversity Richmond, Latinos and Amigos, Mothers and Others of Virginia, Senior Center of Greater Richmond, Sierra Club Falls of the James, Women-Matter, Virginia Organizing, Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance.
