Bacon wrapped corn dogs, macaroni and bacon, bacon deviled eggs, bacon cornbread; are you hungry yet?
Bacon wrapped corn dogs, macaroni and bacon, bacon deviled eggs, bacon cornbread; are you hungry yet? Find it all at the 3rd Annual Richmond Bacon Festival coming to the 17th St. Farmers Market this upcoming Sunday, June 14th 2015. Skip out on brunch and make your way downtown as the festival begins at 11a.m. and goes on until 5p.m.
The 17th St. Farmers Market is known to hold a load of festivals put together by the Enrichmond Foundation, a foundation serving Richmond’s people, parks, and public spaces. Last year, the Bacon Festival brought just over 22,000 people to the Farmers’ Market, and this year we expect close to 24,000 attendees says Whitney Traynham, the event manager for the Enrichmond Foundation.
The event has a huge following on Facebook, and the word definitely seems to be out.
Some prospective attendees are even wondering why this festival hasn’t been extended into a full weekend event.
There will be a DJ welcoming folks until about 1p.m. and following that, we can expect live music entertainment by locals Dance Candy and the amazing James Brown tribute band, The Big Payback, who played the pork-party last year and were a huge hit.
There will also be a craft market and a children’s area with entertainment for kids of all ages like face-painting, bacon-themed henna tattoo’s.
Lots of local restaurants and food trucks will be joining the festival this year. Vendors will feature 1 to 3 specialty menu items that contain bacon. Some restaurants participating are The Blue Goat, Mama J’s, Fat Dragon, Strawberry Street Cafe, Casa del Barco, Mosaic, and River City Wood Fire – you’ll surely be able to try something new with plates being $4 each.
Enrichmond focuses on making this festival efficient by gaining supporters of local richmond restaurants so it’s on the more fair-scale size.
“The Bacon Festival is an extremely popular event, and it is absolutely essential that lines move quickly and efficiently to make the festival experience positive for attendees,” said Traynham.
This event is public and free to anyone with a suggested donation of $1 to the Enrichmond Foundation.
