Coming up this March 26-27, United Blood is a hardcore festival. This will be it’s fourth year. We’re going to have more coverage of this as it gets closer, however, here’s two questions that Colin (who run the event with his partner-in-crime Dave) were kind enough to answer for us:
Why are you doing this?
We started doing this because we love Richmond and we love hardcore.
Richmond is one of the coolest cities there is, and we want to
hopefully be a contributing factor. And more importantly, we wanted
to create an event where bands could play to people who might
otherwise never hear them. where labels can promote themselves, and
where people from all over could have fun for a weekend. So far its
worked out perfect every year. How often can bands who normally play
in front of 100 or so people play to almost 1000 people living
anywhere from Alaska to Japan at the same time? It’s a fun time.
How is hardcore different from the rest of metal?
To me the only difference between hardcore and metal is attitude. If
you listen to the riffs, its pretty much the same thing. People have
a million different answers to this question. Who really cares. This
year we have bands like Wasted Time and Rival Mob playing alongside
bands like Madball and Death Threat. Just last year, Converge
co-headlined with the Cro Mags and Have Heart. All these bands
couldn’t sound any more different if they tried, but all are considered
to be hardcore bands…

United Blood is at Alley Katz in Shockoe Bottom, and tickets will cost $50 for the whole weekend; if that seems steep, remember that they’re going to have 25+ bands, the full listing of which is available on their website linked above.
