The weather’s crummy, but it’s Halloween weekend, so the time is right to get your scares on — even if you have no interest in putting on a costume and leaving the house. For the perfect way to kick off Halloweekend, here an essential streaming horror marathon, from us to you.
Grab your sour candies, fun size M&Ms, and Halloween Joe Joes; grab your favorite fuzzy blanket; and light your favorite pumpkin spice candle, folks. We’re settling in this Halloween with our very own marathon of scary films to get us in the mood this spooky season.
With the pandemic sticking around for another round, but vaccination rates on the rise, it’s easy to get torn on what you should do. Head to a party? Hang out on Hanover Ave? Stay in for a mini-marathon of horror classics? If you’re like us, you’re going to be taking the introvert’s approach. So let’s cuddle up with loved ones as we sit on edge of the couch and screech at all of our favorite jump scares, courtesy of this curated list of films to get you in the mood this weekend.
While any good Halloween marathon naturally draws from classics such as Nightmare on Elm St, Friday the 13th, and a good Hitchcock film for our more classically inclined friends, we decided to take an open poll – what are some of your favorite underrated spooky films? These just some of the responses we received, but they’re available on streaming services.

- Jennifer’s Body (2009)

- Starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfriend and Adam Brody. Fox stars as the titular Jennifer, who after being possessed by a demon goes on a rampage killing her male classmates.
- Critters (1986)
- Streaming Service: HBOMax
- Starring Billy Zane, Dee Wallace and Billy Green Bush. All hell breaks loose when hungry aliens eat their way through a Kansas farming town while on the run from intergalactic bounty hunters.
- Hush (2016)
- Streaming Service: Netflix
- Starring Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco and John Gallagher Jr. Siegel plays a writer who is deaf and mute, and has to defend herself from an unknown man trying to break into her home.
- Creep (2014)
- Streaming Service: Netflix
- Starring Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice. Brice is a videographer who answers an ad placed by Duplass who wants to film a movie for his unborn child. All seems normal enough until Duplass’s requests just become more and more bizarre.
- Mr. Boogedy (1986)
- Streaming Service: Disney+
- Starring Kristy Swanson and David Faustino. Mr. Boogedy is a short film that finds a New England family who learns their new home is haunted by a local legend. Bonus: If this film is in your wheelhouse, then you’ll be happy to know that there is more where that came from. [If you’re in your 40s, this movie might be a huge nostalgia trip for you. I can tell you from experience, everybody in middle school was way into it when it came out. -ed.]
- Don’t Look Under the Bed (1999)

- Starring Ty Hodges and Erin Chambers. Chambers plays a straight-laced teen who refuses to believe in the paranormal. Once pranks start happening in her neighborhood thanks to a boogeyman living under her bed, her attitude takes a 180 — especially once she is framed for the pranks in question.
- My Bloody Valentine (2009)

- Starring Jensen Ackles and Jamie King. Ackles returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine’s night massacre that claimed the lives of twenty-two people. He comes home only to learn he is suspect number one to everyone but his ex.
- Thirteen Ghosts (2001)
- Streaming Service: HBOMax
- Starring Matthew Lillard and Tony Shaloub, this remake of the William Castle film finds a family who inherit a house from an eccentric uncle. Quickly they learn that the house is more dangerous than it seems, as it is haunted by various entities with increasingly gruesome backstories.
- Suburban Gothic (2014)
- Streaming Service: Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Hulu (Premium)
- Starring Matthew Gray Gubler, Kat Dennings, and John Waters. Gubler plays an awkward man in a small town with the ability to talk to the dead. It’s up to him and his bartender (Dennings) to save the day when a ghost begins terrorizing their town.
- Life After Beth (2014)
- Streaming Service: Tubi, Vudu, and Pluto TV
- Starring Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan and John C. Reilly. DeHaan learns that his girlfriend (Plaza) has returned from the dead. All is well until he notices that she is beginning a grisly transformation.
