Tromatized – Lloyd Kaufman Talks Indie Filmmaking, Science Team, and Exploding Penises Ahead of 5/31 Byrd Theater Appearance
Lloyd Kaufman will return to Richmond on Saturday, May 31 for a special screening of Return To Nuke ’em High Vol. 1 at The Byrd Theatre (2908 W. Cary St). The screening begins at 1 PM and will be followed immediately afterwards by a Q&A with Kaufman. Tickets are $7, or $5 for members of the Virginia Production Alliance. Science Team writer/producer/director Drew Bolduc and producer Michele Lombardi both created special effects for Return To Nuke ’em High Vol. 1. Science Team is out now, and will be shown at the 2014 Tromadance Film Festival in New York on June 27.

I’m sitting in an old luxury home someplace in Chesterfield. There are about 18 pairs of shoes in a pile near the front door, including my own. The living room is a mess with costumes and production staff. Richmond filmmaker Drew Bolduc is pacing around the next room, red hair a mess and glasses slightly off-kilter. Across from this tortured genius sits a similarly tortured genius, though the latter is one who you might be a bit more familiar with.

This is the first installment of the new year for RVA Magazine’s weekly live music preview column, and we’re beginning the year with a changing of the guard. For over three years now, our live music coverage has been handled by John Lewis Morgan, head honcho at One Way Richmond. Unfortunately, due to other responsibilities related to day jobs and running his own site, John has had to step down from his position covering live music here at RVA Magazine. We of course wish him the best, and hope to see him continue to shake things up with his site’s unique contribution to the local scene.
