Check it out, folks, it’s a new video from RVA hip hop enigma Adam Zombie, who never seem to play shows that much but have an active youtube channel. Their videos often revolve around themes of mysterious violence and youthful hedonism, which fits with their intricate rhyming style, full of internal rhymes and pop-cultural references. With their off-kilter boom-bap production sound mixed in, it seems like there’s an Odd Future influence at work here, but what Adam Zombie is doing is unusual in this day and age regardless of their influences. The new video for “Jungle Book,” which comes from last year’s Kick Kick Punch LP, features a bizarre horror movie style intro–fitting for a group with the word “zombie” in their name–then goes for more of a party vibe once the song starts. Huge shelves full of liquor, couples making out in the background, and flossin’ with Monopoly money are what’s going on in this video, and combined with a truly solid song for a foundation, the result is four very entertaining minutes of video from this underrated local group. Check it out.
