Here’s a new video from the braintrust behind the Seven Hills Crew. We haven’t caught up with these guys in a while, but they’re still on their grind, and they’ve got a new video for us from Charles Diamond‘s upcoming album, The Recluse. It features the artist known variously as Cons, Kons, Cons The Child, and now just plain Daniel Conover. Conover didn’t produce this one–that was handled by a.P.e.–but he did mix and master the track, and he not only sings the hook but lays down a verse on this track. The video might make it tough for you to tell which verse is his, though, as he and Charles Diamond change places willy-nilly throughout, lip-syncing along with the verses that are playing regardless of who originally spit them on the recording. At this point, I’m pretty sure that Conover takes the last verse, and Diamond does the first two, but it’s pretty amusing to see them rhyme along with each other over the course of the song.
In fact, both the song and the video being presented here are sure to put a smile on your face. The video, directed by Rogelio Jaramillo Flores, appears to capture a sunny day in Shockoe Bottom–though perhaps it’s actually several days, as the length of Conover’s hair changes noticeably over the course of the video. Diamond and Conover wander around appreciating the scenery and enjoying the sunshine, with occasional diversions to highways and train trestles. The musical feel of “Imagine That” fits well with these images–it’s smooth and jazzy, reminding me of Golden Age sounds from the West Coast in the early 90s (Souls Of Mischief, Del The Funky Homosapien, etc). If the whole record sounds like this, I’m really gonna enjoy it, but for now, we can all appreciate this preview video, which is very appropriate for this lovely day in RVA.
