Cosby, “Heartracer”

The Cosby brothers are back at it! Chris (keyboards/lead vocals) and Chip (guitar/backing vocals), along with drummer Mike Levinson, have begun the process of following up their self-released 2013 debut album, In Flight, by releasing a new single called “Heartracer.” Musically, it’s an advancement of what Cosby has been doing ever since they got together–mixing the warm electronic haze of 80s synth-pop with cold, glittering postpunk/New Wave lead guitar melodies and the best 21st century production elements. The result is like Corey Hart fronting first-LP Killers, or Echo and the Bunnymen collaborating with Duran Duran. So yeah–awesome.

The video for “Heartracer” gets on the same wavelength, using elements lifted from retro video game design as a framing device for an adorable story of nerd love. They’ve done a good job of disguising it with crazy lighting, but if you look closely, you’ll notice they shot this video in Strange Matter, using that venue’s extensive selection of vintage arcade games as a backdrop. And of course, we can’t forget about Chris’s sweet keytar, which thankfully gets a lot of screen time in this video.

There’s no set release date for the next Cosby album, but keep up with the latest news on what they have going on by following them on Facebook and Twitter. And grab a copy of In Flight if you haven’t already–it’s currently available as a name-your-price download on Bandcamp.
