Creep-A-Zoids, “Dead By Dawn”

It really is a wild time down there in Shockoe Bottom some nights, and it doesn’t get much wilder than the night out at Wonderland that’s captured in this new video from RVA’s own Creep-A-Zoids. The self-proclaimed “horror punk” band had me expecting Misfits-style sounds, but instead I got something closer to a more distorted version of the Cramps. That certainly works for me, and “Dead By Dawn” is a fun tune in which threats about what supernatural horrors may befall you if you don’t join the Creep-A-Zoids’ party are bandied about willy-nilly over the kind of rockabilly riff that both Reverend Horton Heat and Social Distortion would be quite familiar with.

The video’s a lot of fun in its own right, as Creep-A-Zoids pack the back room of Wonderland with a rowdy crew of punk miscreants. From tattooed zombies to lucha libre wrestlers to members of GWAR in full costume to, um, Waldo (where is he?), the audience runs the gamut, and they get down in fine fashion to Creep-A-Zoids’ energetic performance. The sound quality on the video isn’t perfect, but that’s a minor detail you’ll soon forget in favor of getting caught up in the enjoyable silliness going on here.

Creep-A-Zoids will be back at Wonderland this Friday, September 27, opening up for Detroit’s Koffin Kats. Also on the bill for this punk n’ roll extravaganza will be US Brass and Hell Hounds. Doors open at 8 PM–come check it out! For more info, click here.
