DAILY FIX: Characters With Bikes–Neil Hise

by | Oct 2, 2012

FBM, a BMX bike company based in New York, has started a new series of videos entitled Bikes With Character, Characters With Bikes. The mission of the video series, as described on FBM’s website, is to showcase their “unique brand, from our cast of characters on the team, the staff, to our own factory in Johnson City New York, and our hand-built bikes ridden throughout the world.” FBM rider and RVA resident Neil Hise is indeed a unique guy, and FBM recognized that fact and chose to begin their series with a video showcasing Neil.

Currently a mechanic at Bunnyhop Bike Shop here in Richmond, Neil has been working at various bike shops around town for the past decade, and has been shredding like crazy for a lot longer than that. Previously featured on ESPN.com, Neil takes things to a whole new level on this FBM video, and after providing a brief glimps of his workspace (and his tattoos), as well as explaining some of his philosophy about what makes a good quality bike shop, he heads out onto the streets of RVA to demonstrate his skills. Chaos ensues, including a few pretty gnarly wrecks (if the sight of blood bothers you, there’s a part in this video that’s gonna make you a little queasy), but a whole lot more successful stunts, proving why FBM wants Neil Hise on their team. I was blown away by some of the tricks that he lands in this video–some of them look straight-up impossible. But if you’re good enough, fearless enough, and crazy enough, apparently you can pull them off–and Neil Hise is all of those things. Check out this video and see for yourself.
