Iron Reagan, “Mini Lights”

by | Dec 20, 2013

Hey folks, it’s a new video from Iron Reagan! This RVA thrash band grabbed a lot of attention this year, not just due to their star-studded pedigree (the group features members of Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse, and Darkest Hour, among others), but for the powerful statement they made with debut album Worse Than Dead, released earlier this year on Baltimore’s A389 Records.

Now they’re preparing to follow that up with a split LP with recently resurrected California goregrind band Exhumed. That LP, featuring four songs from each band, will be out on Tankcrimes sometime early in the new year–but if you order now, not only will you hopefully score one of the first 300 mailorder-only copies, which are pressed on a tri-color white/red/black vinyl combo, but you’ll get an immediate digital download of the entire album. How can you resist? Click here to order!

The video above, for “Mini Lights,” presents a 21st century update on Taxi Driver, in which an unhinged metal fan stalks Iron Reagan while playing with guns and knives, doing repetitive exercises, and other such De Niro-like activities (but no mohawk, though–what a shame). While Iron Reagan may not foreground their goofy sense of humor the way singer Tony Foresta’s other band, Municipal Waste, always does, there’s still a definite undercurrent of wit running through this video, from the way the obsessive fan turns photos not of the band but of Ronald Reagan himself into targets to the outstanding ending, in which the expectations built up over the course of the entire video are brilliantly and hilariously subverted. But we won’t spoil it for you–just watch. We promise it’s worth it.

As was mentioned yesterday, Iron Reagan will be opening for GWAR at their post-Christmas extravaganza, to be held at The National on Sunday, December 29. In addition to the obvious fact that GWAR is not to be missed, this will be an excellent opportunity to catch RVA’s latest and greatest thrashcore band on the big stage on East Broad St. Tickets are $20 in advance, so don’t forget to grab yours by clicking HERE! And of course, as we mentioned before, make sure you preorder your copy of the Exhumed/Iron Reagan split from Tankcrimes Records by clicking HERE.
