We’re just over the moon about this new J. Roddy Walston & The Business jam, which leads off their new LP, Essential Tremors, in fine heavy-rockin’ fashion. It’s already cementing its position as one of the best singles of the year–and now there’s an awesome accompanying video that only makes “Heavy Bells” seem even cooler.
Directed by Matt Wignall with special effects by Mike Aho, this clip is a hilarious parody of new age post-hippie cults–mainly Scientology, though there are some elements of Father Yod’s Source Family that show up as well. We particularly love the fake 70s-style infomercial clips advertising the “Essential Tremors Social Deprogramming Music Therapy”–and watching members of the RVA music scene take supposedly-enlightening electrical jolts is pretty hilarious as well. The video’s dramatic, hallucinogenic action fits well with the powerful crescendos of the song it’s accompanying, making this entire clip a real blast.
