Luggage Party Weekend, Part 3: “Magilla”

by | May 27, 2013

“Nine hours, two blunts, five joints, a trip to the strip club, a case of PBR, a bottle of Jack Daniels, and a quarter of shrooms later…” is the legend that appears onscreen at the beginning of “Magilla,” the third and final part of the triloggy known as the Luggage Party Weekend.

The sun has risen, and one could consider the events of this video to constitute an aftermath, but as the video also starts with a trip to the Scott’s Addition ABC Store, it’s clear that the start of a new day is more like a new beginning than any sort of true end to the festivities. Over a horn-laden soul/funk hook, our dynamic duo of MCs, Ben FM and Oxen Johnson, alternate between kicking dope rhymes and just going, “Yeeeeaaaaaahhh…” like stoners getting a huge kick ouf of the sound of their own voices. It’s kind of funny and totally fun–before long you’re getting in on the act when the chorus rolls around.

Meanwhile, in the video, the big wheel riders are still in full effect, with the crew now pulling a full-fledged boomin’ system behind them as they ride through Carytown, waving to passerby and totally bumming out the steadily growing crowd of vehicular traffic in their wake. That’s OK, though, because the ultimate message of the Luggage Party Weekend is to stop worrying so much, chill out, and enjoy yourself. That’s exactly how you should be spending this Memorial Day–preferably at a barbecue, or cookout of some sort. And if you’re looking for some sweet jams to bump while you’re grilling burgers in the backyard this afternoon, why not head over to Luggage’s bandcamp page and grab yourself a copy of Sex, Drugs, and Rap, the album that features not only all three parts of the Luggage Party Weekend trilogy, but 13 more songs as well? You won’t regret it.
