Dawit N.M.’s new project aims to create a new platform for emerging Virginia artists.
His videos, shot under the name of Contour, have tapped into lesser known folks in the Hampton Roads area, and brought out some interesting and entertaining bits.
“We give artist of all mediums a platform to tell their stories,” sid N.M. in an interivew. He gives folks 2-3 minutes to say whatever they want, sometimes prompted, and sometimes freeform.
The ODU communications major said he prefers the open-dialogue format, and it also makes for easier production in the end.
He’d been shooting videos at weddings and events prior to this new venture, and his skills with the camera can be seen in every new video release.
“There’s a lot of Virginia artists that people don’t really know of, and the fact that Virginia is divided north, south – i hope this project can help us become one,” N.M. said. “I think with this project we can give local artists some exposure.”
Contour plans to release one video a week over the course of a few months, and then take some time to shoot and produce more for a “second season.”
You can keep up with the Contour series by subscribing to them on Youtube, or keep an eye out as we try and support N.M. by reposting his videos as they’re released.
