THURSDAY: Science Team Soiree At Portrait House

by | May 7, 2013

We’ve already let you know a bit about Science Team, the zany sci-fi/horror film from some of the people that brought you locally produced cult hit The Taint. The filmmakers have been raising funds on indiegogo in order to defray production costs, and with the deadline for the indiegogo campaign arriving this Saturday, the filmmakers are throwing a party at brand new Carytown restaurant Portrait House to bring in some additional donations and have a good time.

It all goes down this Thursday beginning at 7 PM. Between 7 and 9 PM, a donation of $5 or more gets you an extended happy hour, with drink specials from Portrait House’s well-stocked bar featuring over 20 taps. And of course, you can grab dinner as well–Portrait House offers wood-fired pizza as well as gourmet burgers and other delicious fare, in addition to their excellent selection of craft beers.

Starting at 9 PM, the party will kick into high gear, with local DJ and hip hop producer Graphic Melee taking to the turntables to deliver a set of jams lasting well into the night. Meanwhile, donations offered after 9 PM will gain lucky attendees access to the “secret science cocktail special,” about which little is known other than the name. Ordering it should be quite an adventure, though, which is the real point of this entire affair, so why not? The producers of Science Team will also be raffling off all sorts of film-related prizes, including Science Team t-shirts and comic books. Plus, one lucky winner will be able to score the opportunity for a cameo role in the film! For anyone who loves independent cinema (and seeing themselves, in all likelihood, getting murdered by aliens on the big screen), this is the opportunity of a lifetime. And even if you don’t win, your support helps support local independent filmmaking in Richmond and will ensure that these crackpot visionaries have an opportunity to share the latest crazy thing they’ve put together with all of us! And what could be more awesome than that?

WHAT: Come Party With Science Team In Carytown!
WHERE: Portrait House, 2907 W. Cary St
WHEN: Thursday, May 9, 7 PM
ADMISSION: Technically free, but bring donations for Science Team!

In order to give you a closer look into the story behind Science Team, below we present a recent podcast by Kontra, who spoke to writer/director Drew Bolduc, producer/assistant director Michele Lombardi, and a variety of other Science Team crew members. Check it out to learn all sorts of things about what your support will help to fund and create.

And by the way, don’t forget to go to Science Team’s indiegogo page! Even if you can’t make it Thursday night, you’ve got until Saturday to donate. Click here:
