A press release from Showtime said the new season will run for 9 episodes and all of them will be directed and written by the show’s original creators David Lynch and Mark Frost.
Here’s a tweet from Lynch with the video announcement.

The original Twin Peaks debuted in 1990 and was loved for its weird visual cues and dark story line.
After the death of high-school sweetheart Laura Palmer, an FBI agent comes to town to solve the complicated murder. But things are never as they seem in the quiet logging town, and before long, a ghastly mystery unravels which makes everyone a suspect.
And then there was this log lady…
The show became more complicated (despite Lynch’s departure for a majority of its run) and fans dropped off. It was canceled after its second season, but Lynch returned with a movie version, Fire Walk With me, which filled in some gaps, but mainly left everyone confused.
These 9 new episodes are said to continue the story from where we left off… which is below:
“What more can I say – TWIN PEAKS with David Lynch and Mark Frost on Showtime in 2016!” said Showtime President David Nevins. “To quote Agent Cooper, ‘I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.’”
